Speaking on the occasion, Nigam said welfare of lawyers would be his top priority and all possible efforts would be made in this direction.
Overwhelmed with the welcome given by the HCBA, Dr Nigam said that the previous government had enhanced the sanctioned strength of Judges in other High Courts, but this was not done with Allahabad High Court. Efforts would be made now to get the sanctioned strength of Judges enhanced in this High Court also. This will certainly solve the problem of pendency of cases here, he said.
Dr Nigam said the executive had failed to perform its duties and now the judiciary was the last hope of the people. He said that the issue of alleged corruption in judiciary would not be accepted and it would be raised at the proper forum.
While expressing gratitude to the Central government for appointing him ASGI for Allahabad High Court, Dr Nigam also assured that problems relating to the office of the Central government at Allahabad High Court too would be soon resolved.
Addressing the gathering, Additional Advocate General Adish C Aggarwala said that by creating the post of ASGI for Allahabad High Court, the Government of India had upgraded the status of Allahabad High Court.
Former secretary of HCBA, SP Singh said that the Central government had enhanced the prestige of lawyers of north India by appointing Dr Nigam as the ASGI for Allahabad High Court.
