The Indian health care industry consists of mainly nine segments: hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, offices of physicians, offices of dentists, home health care services, offices of other health practitioners, outpatient care centres, medical and diagnostic laboratories and other ambulatory health care services.

Health care firms employ large numbers of workers in professional (physicians, surgeons, dentists etc) and service (nursing and home health aids) occupations. Together, these two occupational groups account for 3 out of 4 jobs in the industry. The next largest share of jobs, 18 per cent, is in office and administrative support. Management, business, and financial operations occupations account for only 4 per cent of employment.

What are the skills required for job roles?

Being an industry which exists to serve people, it is but obvious that to work in this industry customer service mentality is a must. Nurses and administrative staff, therefore, must have an inherent interest to serve people and it should be accompanied with domain knowledge, basic communication skills, basic mathematical skills and an eye for detail to handle day-to-day activities with utmost accuracy and care.

Why are assessments important in this industry?

Assessments are important in this industry to determine quality. Certifications for nursing are available to help identify and benchmark skills and present these to professional healthcare companies. This independent certification through assessments is extremely important for budding nurses due to the educational scenario prevalent in that space.

What levels are assessments used for?

Assessment in the healthcare industry mainly makes sense in the case of fulfilling the large-scale demand for nurses. Nurses become available to the healthcare fraternity through two sources. One is where students studying in an institute have to mandatorily complete two years of internship in the institute hospitals and the second approach is where individuals work in small nursing homes and consider certifications as a route to fulfill their aspirations of working with larger establishments. Assessments are thus mainly useful for both these groups of people.

What are the specific assessments used?

The assessment suite for nursing profiles combine tests on nursing with basic communication, logical ability and numerical ability.
