Heavy rainfall in City again

LOCAL ACTIVITY led to heavy rainfall in the City during afternoon hours on Monday. Interestingly, the entire City was not lashed simultaneously but rather in phases with parts of old City receiving very heavy showers for more than one-and-a-half-hours from 1.30 pm onwards, while New Bhopal was lashed an hour later from around 2.30 pm.

Although the rains did not last for more than one-and-a-half hours in each of the phases and was preceded by bright sunshine, it gave citizens – who are already quite distraught with rains during this season - a scare with its intensity.
Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director Dr D P Dubey said rainfall accompanied with thunder activity was a completely local phenomenon.

The City recorded 20.6 mm of rains between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday, while during the same period, 26.9 mm of

rains was recorded at the airport. With this rain, the average rainfall expected for the month of September has already been crossed on the fourth day of the month.

Rains in East MP From Tuesday: Meanwhile, with the low pressure system that developed over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday and was moving very fast, heavy rains are expected to restart in Eastern parts of State from Tuesday.

In other parts of the State, Dewas received 7 cm, Hoshangabad – 4 cm, Harda – 3 cm and Damoh and Chanderi received two cm of rains each during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday.
