"A trough of low pressure has formed over Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka and South Tamil Nadu. Under its influence isolated heavy to very heavy rain may occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry in the next 48 hours," Met officials said.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea as strong onshore winds from Northeasterly to Easterly direction, with wind speeds occasionally reaching 45-55 Kmph are likely along off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, they said.

The sky would be generally cloudy, with possible rain or thundershowers in some areas. Minimum temperature would be around 24 degree Celsius.

State Police headquarters said the toll in rain related incidents since the onset of the north-east monsoon last month had gone up to 110.
