Heavy rains continued to lash entire north, central and south Gujarat for the third consecutive day today.

Heavy rains continued to lash entire north, central and south Gujarat for the third consecutive day on Friday even as the weatherman indicated that the showers are likely to recede on Saturday.

The city also remained overcast the whole day with sharp showers at regular intervals drenching commuters who struggled to wade through water-logged areas.

"There was a heavy cloud mass over Saurashtra and north Gujarat and Gulf of Cambay today which brought good rainfall. But it is likely to reduce tomorrow", regional director of meteorological department R K Kankane told PTI.

Notable rainfall was recorded in several drought-hit parts of Banaskantha district of north Gujarat with Dhanera (132mm), Deesa (106mm), Vadgam (106 mm), Deodar (123mm), Vav(102mm), official sources said.

Ahmedabad city received 32 mm rains today and 169 out of the total 225 talukas were lashed by heavy to moderate rains.

Heavy rainfall activity was also recorded in Vadodara district and Valsad in south Gujarat while moderate rainfall was recorded in other districts, including Saurashtra region.

Till date 1,25702.44 million cubic feet water has been stored in 14 reservoirs of north Gujarat, 16 in central Gujarat, 13 in south Gujarat, 20 in Kutch and 121 in Saurashtra, sources said.
