The Guwahati High Court has dropped contempt proceeding against Tripura's finance minister Badal Chowdhury after he denied making remarks against the Judiciary in an affidavit.

A division bench of the High Court at Agartala comprising Hrishikesh Roy and A Potsangbam heard the counsel for Chowdhury, Subhasish Talapatra, who stated that the minister had categorically denied in an affidavit the statement ascribed to him by some newspapers.

According to the petitioner, the Government Pensioners'Association, Tripura, the minister allegedly made the remarks against the Judiciary at a lawyers' conference in Agartala last year.
