Higher taxes for schools charging higher fees

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday said that the Supreme Court has put a stay on the high court order to refund the additional tax it has collected in the past eight years from schools that charge higher tution fee from students.

The south corporation will continue its policy of “higher the fee higher the tax” till the case is finally decided by the Supreme Court.

Accordingly, schools charging fees up to R600 per month will be charged property tax at a factor of 1, those charging between R600 to R1200 will be charged at a factor of 2 and those taking a fee of R1200 and above will be charged at a factor of 3.

The tax percentage will be charged according to the location of the schools with institutes in A and B category colonies such as Friends Colony and Greater Kailash paying 15 percent tax, schools in C, D and E category colonies paying 12 percent and those in F, G and H category paying 10 percent tax.
