Hilditch played 18 Tests for Australia between 1979 and 1985, scoring 1,073 runs, including two centuries, at an average of 31.55 but is best known for being given out handled the ball.

Hilditch was given out at the non-striker's end in 1978-79 when he picked up the ball and returned it to Pakistan fast bowler Safraz Nawaz who appealed and the batsman was given out.

Hilditch, who is trained as a solicitor, was appointed to the national selection panel in 1996-97.

Hohns, who had served as a national selector since 1993 and as chairman since 1996, announced on Tuesday he was quitting to concentrate on business interests.

Cricket Australia have not yet named a replacement to join Hilditch, Merv Hughes and David Boon on the selection panel.
