Himachal gets 435 per cent more rain in June

Himachal Pradesh has experienced 435 per cent more rain than the average for this time of the month, the weather office said in Shimla on Thursday.

Himachal Pradesh has experienced 435 per cent more rain than the average for this time of the month, the weather office said in Shimla on Thursday.

"The state saw 435 per cent more rain against the normal in just first nine days of June. However, most of the rain occurred on a single day, June 8," Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office in Shimla said.

He said during this period, the state experienced 84 mm of rainfall against the normal of 15.7 mm.

According to him, district wise, Kullu experienced 745 per cent extra rain. "Against the normal of 18.5 mm, the district saw 156.3 mm of rain this month."

The situation was similar in other districts like Kinnaur, Bilaspur, Lahaul and Spiti, Solan and Shimla.

"Chamba is the only district in the state that got only 3 per cent more rain against the normal," Singh said.

The high-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur and Kullu districts experienced a mild spell of snow June 8 and June 9.

Rainfall and snow brought down temperatures by four to eight notches across the state.

Shimla town Thursday recorded the night temperature at 14.8 degrees, whereas the maximum was 19.7 degrees Celsius Wednesday.

The met department has forecast a mainly dry weather in the state on Friday.
