After taking over the charge as the director of Allahabad Museum on January 1, 2005, Dr SK Sharma is quite enthusiastic over the prospects of its development.
In a brief tete-a-tete with HT Allahabad Live, he revealed his plans as to how he would make efforts to place the museum at national level.

"My career took off as an Assistant Director, Research, in the Crafts Museum, Delhi which is under the Ministry of Texiles. Afterwards I joined National Museum, New Delhi as the Class I officer till I got the offer to join Allahabad Museum as the Keeper, the post parallel to Deputy Director in the year 1995. Finally I am here with new role and responsibilities as the director of the musuem after the retirement of Dr US Tiwari," said Dr Sharma.

This is not his only experience which counts. He has also worked in the Athens University, Greece, from 1982 to 1985 for Phd Researches under the Department of History of Art and Archaeology under the supervision of Prof BK Lambrouni Dakis. "The experience at Athens was the most rewarding one. The place is the treasure trove of the most invaluable art pieces and with every excavations I got to learn more about their upkeep and their rareity," he added.

"We have prepared the entire plan for the next six months which includes the renovation and displaying the objects aided with modern technologies. There will be use of spotlights, audio-visual system, and proper captions. They will carry the information about each and every object in the gallery," he said.

"The close-circuit cameras will be installed in each gallery in order to maintain the security. The entire activities will be monitored from the rooms of the chairman, the director and the security unit. We are also planning to place a projector in each gallery which will carry the information about the antiquities placed there," he added.

According to Dr Sharma, the basic amenities will be kept in mind to cater to the needs of the visitors. "Sofa sets and chairs and proper drinking water facility will be provided to the visitors. Library of the museum will also be developed with a separate section for the senior research scholars," he added.

"Decentralisation of work is the foremost thing in our mind which will involve the other staff members and inculcate the spirit of team work," he said. "All the plans are running smoothly on account of the full support of our new chairman Prof RK Verma who is very active. His experience and expertise is an added advantage and fortunately we are working under his guidance," he added.

Dr Sharma is looking forward to the changed look of the museum soon.
