HIV-positive cases on rise in Udhampur

In a shocking exposure, the number of human immunodeficiency virus cases reported positive is on the rise in the district- a development attributed to more and more people coming forward and getting themselves tested.

In a shocking exposure, the number of human immunodeficiency virus cases reported positive is on the rise in the district- a development attributed to more and more people coming forward and getting themselves tested.

The figures available for the past four years suggest that the number of people in the district coming forward for HIV test has witnessed a significant increase with each passing year. Apart from this, the number of patients tested positive has also increased in the district.

As per the figures provided by district hospital, Udhampur, 16,681 people got themselves tested for the virus in the last four years. 42 persons were found to be HIV positive, out of which 23 are females.

At a time when India is being hailed for its efforts to bring down AIDS cases among adults by almost 57%, the district has so far reported eight cases of the deadly virus till October only. The authorities are apprehensive that the number may increase in the next two months.
