Hizb divisional commander killed in a shootout in J&K

Security forces eliminate dreaded divisional commander of Hizb during an encounter that lasted five hours.

Inflicting a severe injury to Hizbul Mujahideen cadre, security forces successfully eliminated dreaded divisional commander of Hizb during an encounter that took place in the forest reaches of Gool belt of Ramban district, on Monday.

Identified as Hekmatayar, the slain terrorist was close aide of former Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Billo Gujjar and had jointly executed various killings of civilians.

The longest surviving Hizb terrorist - Billo Gujjar - was earlier eliminated by police on September 4.

Giving details, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu zone, Shesh Paul Vaid during a press conference informed that "in a joint operation of Ramban police and troops of 61 RR eliminated Mohammad Sharief alias Hekmatayar, son of Kaka Gujjar resident of Gool-Gulabgarh, in a fierce firefight in higher reaches of Gool area in Ramban district."

Accompanied by troops of 61 RR, a police team headed by DSP Randeep Singh, on specific information, cordoned an area and launched a massive search operation. When the searching party established a contact with hiding terrorist and challenged him to surrender, Hekmatayar opened indiscriminate firing, which was retaliated. He was eliminated after five-hour-long gun-battle that started in the wee hours on Monday. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorist.
