The 41st ranked Indian eves, who earlier suffered huge losses to hosts Australia and England in league matches, edged past their African rivals 58-54.

India, who were lagging behind Mozambique 13-15 in first the first quarter, staged a comeback in the second and third to wipe out the deficit and take a six-point lead at the end of three quarters.

However, Mozambique gave the Indians a run for their money in the last quarter winning it 14-12. But the effort was not sufficient to stop India from winning the tie.

Surprisingly, the Indians could not garner much benefit from their strength of scoring off three-pointers. Instead, their maximum scoring came off field goals (24) and two-pointers (20). They also gained from free throws, scoring six points with a success rate of 66 per cent.

Geethu Anna Jose (17) and Shiba Maggon (17) were the main architects of India's victory.
