Addressing the media persons on Saturday, director of Srijan Hospital, Dr BB Agarwal said the five ‘Fs’ play an important role in determining the problem of stones in patients. These include ‘fat’, ‘fertility’, ‘female’, ‘fair colour’ and ‘forty or above age’. But in the past few years, the techniques like PCNL, ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy (URSL) and laparoscopy have revolutionised the way stone patients were treated earlier.

Dr Agarwal said, “It is only a misapprehension that the number of gall bladder and kidney stone patients have suddenly increased in the past few years. Just because we have better diagnosis facility we can identify the problem accurately and provide treatment. Whereas in the past the stone patients were given varied treatment on the basis of assumptions.”

Dr Agarwal said PCNL and URSL techniques were also useful for diabetes and heart patients. Similarly, minimally invasive TURP and TURBT techniques could be used for treating prostate and tumours.

Dr Savita Agarwal said recently IVF centre has been opened at the Srijan to provide assisted reproductive technique to childless couples. Dr Ashok Agarwal was also present on the occasion.
