Promising middle-order batsman Faisal Hossain has been included in the 14-member Bangladesh national team in place of an injured Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar for the ICC Champions Trophy beginning in England on September 10.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce the name of new captain before the departure of the team on Thursday.
Bashar is to undergo an operation on his right thumb which he injured during a practice session last week, according to a report by United News of Bangladesh.
The BCB received a medical report yesterday on Bashar's thumb injury from Australia, which recommended an early surgery.
A BCB official said Bashar would fly to Australia soon for surgery, which would require three to four weeks for recovery.
He hoped that Bashar would be fully fit before the arrival of New Zealand national team in Bangladesh on October 11 to play the first Test against the home side on October 19.
Bangladesh are to play six warm-up matches - two each against Ireland, Scotland and England - prior to their campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy.
They will play South Africa on September 12 at Edgbaston and meet West Indies on September 15 at Rose Bowl (Hampshire) in the Group matches of the Champions trophy.
