Officials from the civic body said as per the decision, about one lakh households will benefit from low house tax.

"Now we are supposed to charge just Rs 1 per square yard up to 250 square yard plot and exempt the built up areas
from house tax," said an official of MCF.

"The civic body currently charges house tax from 2.21 lakh houses including vacant plots under the municipal area," a senior officer said.

However, houses in more than 250 square yard land will have to shell more as their house tax will be calculated on the basis of the current circle rate as well as built-up area.

"We are hoping under the new house tax policy our revenue grows,” said D Suresh, municipal commissioner.

Sources said since Faridabad comes under JNNURM scheme, covering of 85% houses in the municipal area under house tax is mandatory.
