The condition of Himachal Pradesh chief secretary Sudripta Roy, who suffered a brain stroke in Shimla on Thursday, was stated to be "very critical".

He was brought from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, to Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, at 10pm on Thursday and was operated upon on Friday morning.

"His condition is still very critical," a PGI spokesperson said, adding a team of senior doctors was monitoring his health. A 1978-batch IAS officer, Roy was appointed the chief secretary on May 1, 2012.
