A "Human Chain Walkathon" will be held in the capital Tuesday to raise awareness and funds for the SOS Children's Villages.
The theme for the walkathon to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is "Say yes to joining hands with SOS India to help a child in need."
Around 5,000 children from 100 schools of Delhi are expected to participate in the walk, which will be flagged off by GE Money India CEO Vishal Pandit and J.N Kaul, president of SOS Children's Villages of India.
"The aim of the walkathon is to spread awareness about the urgent need to help children in need and encourage people to sponsor a home and a life of happiness this Diwali through SOS India," said a statement from GE Money, a unit of global major General Electric Company (GE) and a sponsor of the event.
Pandit said: "Parents are willing to go out of their way to get the best of everything for their children to make their dreams come true. Many of our loans are designed to allow parents to give them the things they need with simple and affordable repayment in instalments.
"Underprivileged children unfortunately are not so lucky. Sponsoring a child will light up the child's festivities and give immeasurable satisfaction to the donor."
