We demand that travel through these two roads be made easier to enable more and more people to get benefited by the launch of the bus services, Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said addressing a rally organised by his Awami Action Committee in Srinagar.

The Mirwaiz, however, said that state subject certificate should be made a pre-requisite for travelling on the two roads.

Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said the landmark development would lead to reopening of other routes along the Line of Control in near future.

We welcome the decision and are hopeful that this would be followed by opening of other roads particularly Kargil-Askardo in Ladakh region in near future, he said.

Former Minister and rebel PDP leader Ghulam Hassan Mir and MLA Shopian Ghulam Hassan Khan also hailed the opening of Poonch-Rawlakote road for passenger traffic.

In seperate statements in Srinagar, the two leaders said opening of the road would facilitate the people-to-people contact and provide an opportunity for the divided families to meet each other.
