Moderate Hurriyat Conference has termed the pressure tactics and terrorising people to enforce a shutdown as "political debauchery".
A spokesperson of the Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of many separatist organisations, said such tactics had never helped anyone become popular nor rise in political stature. "The day is not far when the people indulging in politics of negativity would realise that such politics yields no fruit and benefits none," a Hurriyat spokesperson said.
He was reacting to the strike call given on Wednesday by the hardline separatist leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani for protesting against the dialogue process between the moderate Hurriyat leaders led by All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, New Delhi and Islamabad.
The spokesperson said that the Hurriyat stands for bringing peace and prosperity in the state and solving the long-standing dispute of Kashmir as per the aspirations of the people.
The Hurriyat reiterated its stand of resolving the Kashmir issue through a process of dialogue. "It is the only way out," the Hurriyat spokesperson said and added that the people indulging in "politics of strike" for the dialogue of the Hurriyat leaders with Islamabad were only trying to sabotage the peace process.

On May 24, 2004, terrorists also assassinated Mirwaiz's uncle Moulvi Mushtaq while he was offering prayers in a mosque at downtown in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, complete strike was observed in Kashmir on Wednesday and the shops and business establishments remained closed even in Mirwaiz's stronghold of downtown.
