UTTAR PRADESH Congress Committee president Salman Khurshid on Tuesday said he was preparing the pitch for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
It was for Rahul to decide when he wanted to begin batting on the same, he said during a chat with mediapersons at the UPCC headquarters.
As captain of the team, Rahul was entitled to evaluate the pitch and take heavy or light rollers, said Khurshid, using cricket terminology to explain the Congress’ preparations for Vidhan Sabha elections.
He said various programmes were being undertaken to strengthen the party in UP.
He would begin his ‘Jan Jeevan-Jal Jeevan’ Yatra on May 23 or 24, he said.
The State Congress proposed five such yatras covering regions in the vicinity of five major rivers, he said.
He will begin his first ‘yatra’ from Lakhimpur Kheri to cover the area between the Sharda and the Ghaghra rivers, said Khurshid, adding his second yatra would cover the area of the Gomti. In the last phase, the yatra would cover areas near the Ganga and the Yamuna, he said.
To a question, he countered the impression that the Bahujan Samaj Party was on the rise in UP. He did not see the BSP anywhere in UP, he said, adding the BSP may be under the illusion that it was coming back to power in UP.
