Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday turned nostalgic and recounted his school days and reaffirmed that he enjoyed being a teacher.
Observing that he was truly delighted to be in a school, Singh expressed his happiness over facilities the students are able to access today.
"As you know, I chose to be a teacher and enjoyed being a teacher. Even today, I see myself still as a teacher in a slightly bigger class room," Singh told students of Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Girl's High School of Andhra Yuvathi Mandali.
"In my school days I had to walk for three hours and there was no drinking water available on the way," he recalled.
Favouring the increasing role for students in the society, the Prime Minister said that "children are in fact increasingly becoming today's citizens."
"You have both the rights and responsibilities of all citizens. Your education is, therefore, an investment in our future and our present," he added.
