I'm not making a film on gays: Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher speaks to Hiren Kotwani about his film Pyaar Hai Toh Keh Do Yes, which was earlier titled Happy and Gay.
"No, not at all. Who said I’m making a film on gays?” was how Anupam Kher reacted when called to verify the latest buzz in tinsel town. The news is that Kher is directing a film called Happy And Gay, which is also scripted by him.
He confirms the latter, but about the title he says, “I have changed my mind on calling it Happy And Gay. It’s a happy film and I plan to call it Pyaar Hai Toh Keh Do Yes.”

Quiz him again about whether there are any gay connotations in the script and he replies, “None that I’m aware of.” In an earlier to HT Style, Kher had talked about his plans to direct once again.
He had said it would be a big budget, modern-day romance with three actors and five actresses. Besides, he’s also producing Homeland, a father-son story set in Kashmir. Ashok Pandit is directing this film. But for Pyaar Hai Toh Kah Do Yes, Kher is yet to decide on the cast.
“I’m still working on the fourth draft. Only when I’m satisfied with it, I will think of whom to cast,” he states. He attributes going slow on his second directorial venture to “signing up some interesting films as an actor”.
“I’ve finished shooting for N Chandra’s film, tentatively titled Breaking News. I’ve just returned from shooting for Pradeep Sarkar directed untitled film, which also has Jaya Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Konkona Sen Sharma,” he informs.
“Next month, I’ll begin shooting for Ananth Mahadevan’s remake of Victoria No 203 where I’m playing the character of Raja, originally played by Ashok Kumar, and Rahul Rawail’s Buddha Mar Gaya where I’ll be a dead body,” he adds.
He was one of the judges at the Gladrags Mrs India contest held on Saturday. “It’s commendable on part of Maureen Wadia to give a platform to women to step out like this, irrespective of their age and marriage status,” he concludes.
