I-T search and survey on Hotel Bawa Intl group

Two builders from Kandivli and Borivili who are partners of Bawas are also surveyed, reports Manish Pachouly/b.

The income tax (I-T) authorities on Friday conducted search and survey operations on Bawa International group of hotels.

Two builders from Kandivli and Borivili who are partners of Bawas in construction business were also surveyed.

The surveys and searches were conducted at eight places in Mumbai including three hotels owned by the group and residence of the owners. Besides the hotel business, the owners of Bawa International are into catering and construction businesses. The surveys and searches were conducted after the authorities suspected that actual returns from catering and construction businesses were not reflected in books.

An I-T officer requesting anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media said that among the places surveyed and searched include the group’s hotels in Vile Parle, Khar Linking Road and Juhu besides the owner’s residence in Juhu. The operation began in the morning and continued till late night.

Though no seizure was made on Friday, I-T sources said that they were scrutinising the documents seized during the operation.

The Bawas could not be contacted for their comments. Meanwhile, the I-T officers also searched a Peddar Road resident who owned some horses in Pune. The search was conducted on him as the officers found him living a lavish life style and despite that he was not filing returns. He also owned a house in Pune.
