Talking to newspersons here on Sunday, Chauhan said the party leadership had reposed confidence in his organisational work, and made him party incharge for the assembly elections after he stepped down from ministerial office. He said the RLD would contest the election and highlight problems of people, especially farmers.
Power shortage and other problems had an adverse effect on agricultural production, he added. But, the government had increased sugarcane price for the benefit of farmers, he said. About the RLD’s support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government, Chauhan said it would continue and there was no threat to the stability of the government. He hoped his party would strengthen its base in the forthcoming election.
Observers here said sharp differences with the RLD leadeship regarding allotment of contracts in several irrigation plans in Faizabad district, including deepening of the Marha river at a cost of about Rs 6 crore, may have been one of reasons for the sudden resignation of Munna Singh Chauhan.
Many RLD supporters in his home district were taken by surprise on hearing the news of his resignation.
There were several political controversies about allotment of development work in Faizabad district, especially in Sohwal assembly constituency.
Sharp differences between Munna Singh Chauhan and UP Social Welfare Minister Awadhesh Prasad was a topic of discussion in political circles. Both ministers belonged to the same place.
Chauhan laid the foundation stone of a 1.10 km-long bandh at Brahmakund gurudwara in Ayodhya today, which will be built at a cost of about Rs 20.85 crore.
