ID WAS celebrated in the City on Monday with traditional devotion and fervour amidst a show of anger over deposed Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussain?s execution at some places. Special prayers were offered at all major mosques in the City including Idgah, Taj ul Masajid, Moti Masjid and blessings sought for peace and prosperity of the nation.

At some of the mosques, clerics made oblique reference to hanging of deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain and prayed that his soul rest in peace and his sins be pardoned.

But, there was nothing like ‘bad dua’ (curse) for US President George W Bush as reportedly decided by local Muslim clerics on Sunday. However, at the mosque in Ashoka Vihar, some people raised slogans in favour of Saddam Hussain and waved black flags to express their anger over his execution.

Some people also tied George Bush’s picture on the neck of sacrificial goat as a mark of protest against Saddam Hussain’s hanging.

Following prayers, people greeted each other on Id and also visited each other’s houses to taste the delicacies prepared on the occasion. People also exchanged Idi At several places in the City, fair-like situation prevailed with children in new clothes playing on swings and purchasing eatables from vendors.
