DIRECTING THE district police to pull up socks, Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh on Wednesday asked the senior officers to launch intensive drive to identify ‘black sheep’ in the department. Singh said the policemen having nexus with criminals should be identified and dismissed. He said the SPs would be responsible for taking adequate measures after getting information about any incident. The DGP has laid stress on ‘visible policing’ in the districts.
The DGP in his communication to the IGs, DIGs and SPs said the image of entire police had been maligned because of nexus of a handful of cops with anti-social elements for their vested interests. The DGP said strict action should be taken against these people.
Laying stress on controlling crime graph, the DGP said efforts should be made in nabbing dreaded criminals, mafiosi and those involved in the organised crimes in the State. He said there should not be slackness on the part of the officers in responding to any law order situation. The DGP said slow reaction and apathy in reacting to situation always led to worsening crisis. The DGP has directed that officers’ response should be quick.
In view of prevailing tense communal situation, the DGP laying emphasis on amity said that anti-social elements should dealt with sternly. He said yardstick in assessing the crime situation would be the change in perception of the people about law and order. The DGP said the senior officers should personally monitor picketing and deployment for the effective control of crimes. He also directed the officers to be sensitive to the problems of juniors and solve them.
