At the national level, the IGNOU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SE Asia office of the World Health Organisation (WHO). In MP, the RD Gardi Medical College at Ujjain would be the nodal centre for the six-month course.

The practical training would be provided at this college and attached hospital, while the course material would be provided to the candidates.

Any candidate who has passed the higher secondary exam or equivalent can apply for the course. The fee is Rs 2000. Regional director of IGNOU K S Tiwari has said that the course would be very effective for the personnel working in hospitals, as it would provide specialized training on handling of bio-medical waste.

Besides it would provide good employment opportunities to the unemployed youth. He said that the government and private hospitals would be urged to send their personnel for the training.
