The two Indian Institutes of Technology in the capital and Kanpur face additional burden after the OBC quota verdict as their facilities would also be used by those admitted to IIT Rajasthan and Bihar.
The two new IITs are yet to come up but admissions will start from the current academic session, which is expected to commence from July 20.
The students will attend classes at Delhi and Kanpur IITs respectively.
"Situation is really difficult and we are hardpressed. We have discussed this issue in the meeting. There are so many constraints that have been laid down by the Delhi Development Authority that we have to take into consideration. So the situation overall is bad," said IIT Delhi Director Surendra Prasad.
The IITs would be increasing their seats by 13 per cent to ensure a nine per cent quota for OBCs.
Among the seven IITs, Delhi has the smallest campus. There are only 12 hostels, including one newly-built for girls.
"We are looking at alternatives. The norms for allocating hostels will be revised. We may consider converting some transit hostels meant for young professors and project officers for students. We are also looking at renting property in the periphery of IIT," added Prasad.

{{/usCountry}}The government as part of its education expansion plans has allocated an IIT each to Bihar, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
It is yet to finalise the location of these new IITs and it would at least take two years to prepare functional infrastructure.
