BEFORE LEAVING for New Delhi, students of IIT-K and GSVM Medical College made a fervent appeal to the general public to stand by them so that they could compel the government to roll back the proposed quota hike.

The medico and technocrats appealed to various private and government organisations to make their stand clear on reservation as it was a deliberate ploy by the government to divide the society. Before leaving for New Delhi, a medico said, “We are determined to fight till the last against the government’s quota politics but we appeal to the people to support us because without consensus, defeating the government would be slightly difficult, though not impossible.”

With grit, determination and tenacity to confront the government for a roll back of the quota hike (to be implemented from June 2007), over a dozen students from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and GSVM Medical College will leave for Delhi on Sunday to attend the meeting called by the striking medicos of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

To bolster the students’ move, some associations and organisations in the city have expressed their willingness to support them and the anti-reservation protest is likely to be intensified here in the near future.
