A decision in this regard was reportedly taken during a meeting convened by the HRD ministry today for directors of the
IITs. The meeting also took stock of the progress in creation of facilities for the new IITs.

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Punjab, which are functioning at their mentoring IITs in Kharagpur and Delhi at present, will be shifted to their own campuses from the coming academic session.

However, IIT Kanpur may continue to mentor the IIT Rajasthan as the state government is yet to identify a site for setting up of the institute. IIT Kanpur has already expressed its inability to continue holding of classes of IIT Rajasthan in its own campus.

"From the coming session, the new IITs will not be run at the mentor institutes. They will be shifted to their own campus. But the case of IIT Rajasthan may be delayed," an IIT Director informed PTI after the meeting.

The government has already started six IITs last year, while two new elite institutes would be started this year.
