Sources in Municipal Corporation told Hindustan Times that this exercise was started about 10 days back. The primary focus was on plantation of Neem saplings and out of 30,000 plants about 25 Neem saplings would be planted in the City’s Municipal gardens.

When the correspondent asked the Municipal Corporation officer about the objective behind plantation, he said its obviously the environmental benefit attached to the trees. He said besides this Gulmohar, Keshiya and Pipal saplings would also be planted to add to the beauty of gardens.

In all there are about 362 gardens in the City and IMC was carrying out plantation in 100 gardens as this is the best time of the year for plantation as there is hardly any need to water the plants and chances of survival are higher.

Besides this rainwater contains minerals too which are more effective than artificial fertilizer which enhances growth of plants.

IMC started the plantation about 10 days back which was very close to the onset date of monsoon to ensure that the chances of survival of plants are higher said an officer on condition of anonymity.
