TRAFFIC POLICE have asked Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to approach the High Court to seek permission to cut down 20 trees that are proving to be traffic obstacles along the Agra-Mumbai between MIG crossing and Geeta Bhavan and from Palasia police station crossing to Anand Bazaar junction.
SP Anshuman Yadav confirmed that they had written to the IMC. “Due to numerous commercial complexes and encroachments on these roads (especially on the road between Palasia police station and Anand Bazaar), traffic pressure has increased and we feel that if these trees are removed it would ease the traffic pressure,” he said.
The High Court’s permission is needed because of a court directive saying that IMC would have to seek permission before it cuts down even a single tree situated along the roads.
The traffic police have identified 480 trees around the City that are proving to be traffic impediments. Seeking permission to cut down all the trees at one go would be impossible to get, the traffic police feel, so they have decided to tackle the problem one step at a time.
Traffic between Palasia police station and Anand Bazaar is chaotic every day, and many trees along either side of the road are a major contributing factor. These trees give vegetable sellers, flower sellers, fruit vendors and even thela walas an opportunity to encroach on what is essentially the footpath.

{{/usCountry}}They spread their ware under the shelter of the trees and since vehicles cannot go there due to the trees, they are tolerated, and in course of time these encroachments become entrenched.
Sometime back, traffic police had removed the encroachments made by the fruit, flower and vegetable sellers and other sundry eateries along this road, but the space has once again been encroached. Traffic department official feel that once these trees are removed, a major traffic hindrance will be removed.
