AICC member and fiery orator Unnithan and the woman, who was also a former Congress Seva Dal worker, were cornered by locals at a house in Manjeri in northern Kerala's Malappuram district (400 kms north of Thiruvananthapuram). Later the police were summoned. Both were produced before the Manjeri First Class Judicial Magistrate on Monday and released on bail.

"Both were picked up from a house after local people alerted us. They were also undergone medical test," said a senior police officer of Malappuram district. Highly embarrassed the party leadership has promised strict action if charges against him were proved right. "We are looking into the issue. Necessary action would be taken after studying it," PCC president Ramesh Chennithala said.

However, Unnithhan claimed that the ruling party implicated him. "I was framed. It was part of a sinister design planned and executed by the CPM and PDP to divert attention from the terror cases in which Madhani is involved," he said.
