The city police have arrested a man, who was duping people posing as an IPS officer. According to the police, the imposter was arrested on Sunday during a routine checking of vehicles at Fortis Hospital crossing.
When the accused's Maruti Swift car was stopped, he shouted at the police officers and claimed himself to be an IPS officer. Police got suspicious when they noticed that he was wearing a winter uniform.
"The person in Swift car introduced himself as Gaurav Mishra, an IPS officer of 2008 batch. When he could notshow his vehicle’s documents, police officers becamesuspective.
Moreover, he was wearing a winter uniform. He was fluent in English," said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police (SP).
When IPS officers S Chanappa and Prabhakar Chaudhari, who are posted in Noida, interrogated Mishra, he broke down and admitted that he was pretending to be an IPS officer.
"Mishra admitted that he duped many people in Mumbai, Goa, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chandigarh and some cities of Madhya Pradesh. He was active for last one-and-a-half years.
We are yet to ascertain how much money he extorted from his victims," the SP said."Mishra is an engineering graduate from Babu Banarasi Das National Institute of Technology in Lucknow. He had also appeared in the civil services (prelims) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) this year.

According to the police, the daughter of Prem Pal, who resides in Sector 65, was returning home with her mother when three assailants drove up in a Hyundai i10 car and tried to kidnap the girl.
“The assailants stopped the car next to the girl and pulled her inside. Her mothershouted for help. Some residents followed the car.
The car got stuck in the mud aftertravelling a distance of some 200 metres. A PCR van sawpeople running behind the car and immediately rushed towards it. The assailants left the girl in the car and tried to flee. Police could only nab one of the assailants, Raje Yadav,” said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police.
