A marriage ceremony turned into a major confidence building measure between the Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as former PoK prime minister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary on Sunday become first highest dignitary to visit Kashmir from across the border.
On his arrival in Srinagar, Chaudhary described his visit as "confidence building measure" between India and Pakistan. Besides attend the marriage function, the former PoK PM said there was no formal programme to meet any leaders in Srinagar. " I am open to meeting anyone who wishes to do so," he added.
Chaudhary, who will stay in the Valley for five days, claimed his visit could bridge the gap between India and Pakistan. Once having hawkish stand on Kashmir, Chaudhuary advocated easy travel of men and material across the two parts of Kashmir saying "this will increase the people to people contact."
Chaudhary, who arrived in Srinagar this afternoon from New Delhi, went to attend the marriage ceremony residence of businessman Zahoor Ahmad Wattali, a resident of Baghat-e- in Srinagar.
Chaudhuri, who served as the Prime Minister of PoK between 1996 and 2005, was opponent of peace process initiated by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf, who was proponent of four-point formula.
