Even as a First-Information Report (FIR) of criminal assault and trespass was lodged, the police moved slowly and allowed the accused, Kamaljeet Walia, a resident of Model Town, to finally get bail, the complainant, Ashok Pandita has alleged.

Walia reported to Pandita and the accused considered him to have led to his dismissal from the party.

“The police kept telling us that accused will be arrested, but no he has got bail,” said Pandita.

THE CASE

The accused gained entry into Pandita’s house on September 3, taking advantage of the fact that the victim Soni, the homemaker, was not aware that he had been dismissed.

He claimed to have come to drop a marriage invite. He then assaulted the woman and it was only the neighbours who saved the woman from serious injuries. Soni remained hospitalised for two days.
