Ghaziabad is likely to get seven new police stations in the urban city areas. The district police have recently sent a proposal to the state government for the same. Senior police officers said they are hopeful of a positive nod from the state government.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said his department has been working on the proposal for past one year.
"Our proposal is in final stage. Creation of new police stations would add to the existing police force and would strengthen law enforcement in the district," Lal said.
The seven proposed police stations include two each in Indirapuram, Sahibabad and Loni and one in main Ghaziabad area. The district, at present, has 23 police stations including a women police station. The district police department has around 4,000 personnel of all ranks and only 37 PCR vans, which, in strength and resources, is very low as compared to cities like Delhi.
Officials revealed that one police station is set up for an area having a population between 70,000 and 1 lakh, depending on sensitivity and crime rate.
The requirement for the new police station areas was felt as the district saw a tremendous increase in population figures in the past two decades which has now increased to around 46.61 lakh (Census 2011) from 22.47 lakh (Census 1991). A sub-inspector (SI) is flooded with around 50 case-investigations every month which reduces his efficiency and quality of investigation, police officials said.

{{/usCountry}}Further, police expect an increase of about six lakh more in population after the new housing projects come up at Madhuban-Bapudham, Raj Nagar Extension, Integrated City and Hitech City come up in next few years.
"More police stations are need of the hour, considering that the district also contributes a heavy amount to the state revenue. Also, the functioning of the police force should also be made more professional," said Rajendra Tyagi, a municipal councillor and a social activist.
Police officials said that incorporation of a new police station requires clearance from finance, police headquarters and state home departments.
"These seven stations would also add around 300 more police personnel and would help in crime-control," Lal said.
