A senior police official suspended in connection with last month's riots was asked to leave town "with immediate effect" as indefinite curfew remained in force on Wednesday in areas that saw communal violence after a local BJP leader was slain on Sunday.
Aligarh Muslim University has, meanwhile, decided to conduct examinations from Thursday as per schedule.
Calm prevailed in the localities of the old city where curfew was in force and "no untoward incident" had been reported from anywhere since Sunday night, District Magistrate Anil Kumar Sagar said.
He said no decision regarding curfew relaxation had been taken and the situation was being constantly monitored by senior officials camping in Aligarh for the past three days.
The Special Task Force was investigating the matter but had made "no headway" as yet, the DM said.
The district administration last night ordered former City Superintendent of Police SK Verma, suspended for negligence in connection with the communal violence in the first fortnight of April, to leave "with immediate effect".
Verma had stayed on in the town despite the suspension order last month.

It earlier postponed the exams in view of the curfew but "arrangements are now being made in the curfew-bound areas to provide special bus services to the students", an AMU spokesman said.
The district authorities had accepted the proposal, he said.
