India took little time to condemn Thursday's assassination bid on Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, describing it as a "heinous terrorist attack".
"The government of India strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack on President Musharraf in Rawalpindi which took seven lives and injured many people," the external affairs ministry said in a statement.
"We express our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the attack," said the statement read out by spokesman Navtej Sarna.
India took almost 24 hours to condemn the first attempt on Musharraf's life on December 14.
It also used the occasion then to remind Pakistan that the "incident has underscored once again the need for eliminating terrorism in a comprehensive manner from everywhere".
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is slated to arrive in Islamabad January 3 to attend the SAARC summit January 4-6.
