More than 400 golfers - including stalwarts like Shiv Kapur, Jyoti Randhawa and Amandeep Johl - will be part of the four-day 'Airtel India Golf Festival-2006' starting at Qutub Golf Club in New Delhi on Thursday.
The festival is a public-private initiative to project Delhi as a world class golfing destination leading up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has proposed three new golf courses at GT Karnal road, East Delhi and Dwarka before the mega event.
"Before the Commonwealth Games, we are coming up with several public golf courses in Delhi so that they are accessible to masses and specially youngsters," DDA's sports director D Sarkar said.
The festival will feature simultaneous team and individual competitions with 100 players participating every day. Players from Dubai and London will also be a part of the event.
A Junior Golf Clinic conducted by Shiv Kapur and Amandeep Johl will be a major attraction for the youngsters during the festival.
"The two international players will tutor the youngsters in the tricks of the game besides sharing their experiences and techniques," Rishi Narain, the event organiser, said.
