Barring the sailing duo of Malav Shroff and Sumeet Patel, who were set to feature as the bottom-placed pair in the 49er class no other Indian competitor was scheduled to put in an on-field appearance on the ninth day of the Games.

But bad news continued to come from the hockey camp which has gone into a depressive mood following the shattered medal hopes.

Forward Deepak Thakur has been placed under observation in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital within the athletes village.

Thakur collapsed by the side of the players' bench soon after the defeat against New Zealand yesterday and had even stopped breathing for a while. He had to be revived through an oxygen mask and then was shifted to the hospital for treatment and observation, according to the team media manager Anupam Ghulati.

"His condition is stable", one of the doctors attached to the Indian Games contingent, Dr Vece Paes, a hockey Olympian, said, adding that the player would be kept for another 24 hours for further observation in the ICU.

The team could not have progressed into the semi-finals even if they had won the appeal, holders Holland and strong contenders Australia having already sealed the two places from the group.
