India is a model example of how a stable democracy works, former US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice said on Saturday. “India and the US share values of democracy, religious tolerance and an inclusive society."

“When two countries share values, there is no limit to cooperation,” Rice said, addressing the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi.
Referring to the Arab Spring — the fight for democracy in some West Asian countries — Rice said the “protests in Middle East” asking the government to take the “consent” of people in running a country was an important development.
Democratic countries, which have “respect for minorities”, will have to be a bit more patient in the present world, she said.
“Democracy is not a destination but a journey,” Rice said, adding it requires “leadership and partnership.”
