A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on resumption of foreign secretary-level talks, the Pakistan government lodged a protest on ceasefire violation even as India complained of shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Jammu.
Pakistani Rangers fired two to three mortar shells in Nawa Pind border outpost area along the international border in RS Pura sector of the district, BSF PRO, S Yadav said.
The shells exploded at isolated areas and did not cause any casualty or injury to anyone, he said, adding that the BSF did not retaliate.
“Pakistan Rangers fired an 82 mm mortar shell at Nawa Pind BSF outpost in RS Pura sector of the international border at 7 pm,” a senior police officer said.
The Pakistan complaint was registered via diplomatic channels over the death of a civilian after alleged firing by the Indian security forces along the line of control (LoC). 60-year-old Muhammad Aslam was killed in Polas village, Pakistan army said in a statement.
“He received three bullets in abdomen while he was cutting grass and wood 100-150 metres towards our side of LoC,” it said. The incident occurred on the eve of Sunday’s India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match.
