India provides 'links' to B'desh on terrorism

The involvement of Bangladeshis has been traced back to the militant strike at Ayodhya this year, sources said.

India has pointed out to Bangladesh that the recent terrorist incidents, including the Mumbai serial blasts, had "clear links" with individuals and outfits in that country, Union Home Secretary VK Duggal said on Sunday.

New Delhi also expressed concern over the "growing anti-India activities of ISI" from Bangladeshi soil, he told reporters here after attending the 7th Home Secretary-level four-day talks between the two countries in Dhaka, which ended on Sunday.

Duggal, who led the Indian delegation, said he has given certain evidences to Dhaka showing the links of HUJI with the recent terrorist incidents in Mumbai and sought the cooperation of Bangladesh in nabbing those allegedly involved in some of the recent terrorist strikes in different parts of the country.

According to sources in the Home Ministry, the involvement of Bangladeshis had been traced back to the militant strike at Ayodhya this year and there were indications of their involvement in the July 11 serial blasts in Mumbai.

Duggal said that the Indian side reiterated the need for action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) operating from Bangladesh's territory. In this regard, the Indian side mentioned in particular about the presence and activities of IIGs like ULFA.

He said both sides agreed that terrorism posed a threat to both countries and that there was a need to cooperate closely to tackle this menace.

With a view to improving cooperation in this regard both sides agreed to examine the possibility of quickly instituting a bilateral mechanism to combat terrorism and organized crime.
