It’s one contest that has revolutionised the whole concept of beauty pageants. With a guaranteed platform for a career on the international ramp, the Metropolitan Top Model Contest held in association with HindustanTimes.com and supported by HT City, is picking up steam with every passing day as India’s very own fashion channel Trendz readies to televise the event across 15 million households around the world on November14.

Brought to India by Poise Events And Entertainment, the sole licensee for Metropolitan Models Paris, the shortlisted sixteen have already embarked on a workshop that trains them in the intricacies of modelling: everything from eating right to perfecting that walk on the ramp. Says Mumbai model Alesia Raut, 21, who’s already modelled for Freshia, Santoor and Amul Ice creams as well as featured in Sagarika’s music video Kahan Se Aye Badra and DJ Aqeel’s Bhankas, “After establishing my self in this part of the world I am now looking at conquering the west with my charm. Model Noyonika Chatterjee is taking care of every little detail and even if this doesn’t workout for me, I’m sure my career prospects here are guaranteed.”

Lakshmi Gangtkar, a Banglorean pursuing a degree in textile engineering has no qualms about having to spend a considerable portion of her life abroad. “This profession needs dedication and commitment and if I get through I have no problems staying away from home as long as I earn the name and status I aspire for,” avers Gangtkar. Only 16 and the youngest in the team, Rajbir Cheema after having modelled for Ritu Beri and Levis and Benetton is looking at adding another feather to her CV through the contest.
