The board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency had been suspended on Friday following disagreement over the wording of a resolution that would refer Iran to the UN Security Council.

Deal reached on disputed section of resolution

The world powers have reached an agreement on a disputed section of a resolution that would send Iran to the UN Security Council over its suspect nuclear programme, a Western diplomat said on Saturday.

The United States and other Western nations accepted the mention in the text of a Middle East zone free of weapons of mass destruction, as demanded by Egypt, the diplomat said.

The deal could clear the way to adoption of the resolution at a meeting in Vienna of the UN watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-nation board of governors.

The wording "maintains our core objective of reporting Iran to the Security Council, sending all past (IAEA) director general reports and all past board resolutions to the Security Council and having the director general's assessment (of Iran) in March automatically conveyed to the Security Council," the diplomat said.
