AN AGRO-SCIENTIST from the Northern Crop Science Laboratory Fargo in USA, Dr Prem P Jauhar said that the Indian democratic set up was one of the best in the world as it had generously ensured the participation of all communities at the helm of the national affair. Speaking on “India’s glorious past, the present and where the country is going” he said there could be no such example in the world where the top national office was held by a person of the minority community. He said the President of the country belonged to the minority community and above all the congress president also belonged to minority community.

Dr Jauhar was addressing the august gathering at the four day international conference on “Post-harvest technology and value addition in cereals, pulses and oilseeds” at the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) here on Wednesday. He said none of the democratic countries gave this privilege to people belonging to the minority community. In USA and also in Britain cases occurred where the minority community member were shot dead after they won the elections, he added.

He said people across the globe had high regard for Indian traditions. They have all appreciations for the development of mathematics, science, family system, educational and moral values developed during the ancient period.

However, at present the country was passing through multi-corner crisis in almost every field. It seems that the period of being on the “cross-roads” has not ended and the citizens were in search of right direction to proceed toward the glorious path of success. “We are surrounded by many social evils like dowry, communalism, and mass corruption and are still in the stage of a developing psychosis,” he said.
