As per the law if a life convict commits another murder is to be awarded death sentence.

“He has been now booked under RPC section 302,” said DG prison K Rajendra.

Vinod Kumar, a former former sepoy of 15 Garhwal, resident of Uttrakhand, had shot dead his colleague with official weapon. He was court martialed and awarded life imprisonment by an Army court in 2007 and was shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail on July 28, 2009 from district Jail, Leh.

The jail authorities, before the incident, were planning to shift him to his home state soon. But in the wake of Sanaullah's death he would be lodged in the same jail.

According to jail official, Vinod was always forthcoming in doing jail duties and his record in jail didn't suggest that he commit such an act.
