Heavy rains in vegetable growing Sindh region of Pakistan has made the trade movement at the Attari border go up, as about 70 trucks of Indian tomatoes are sent across the border everyday to add flavour in Pakistani kitchens.
The Indian traders claimed that the border, which was seeing movement between 10-20 trucks, has suddenly seen the export on a high. And the heavy rains in Sindh that have destroyed the vegetables are a major reason to it.
Not only 60-70 trucks of tomatoes are being sent to Pakistan but also some other vegetables including cucumber and bitter gourd have been sent. The traders claimed that queries for more vegetables are also coming in and it is likely that more green vegetables roll across the border in coming few days.
Talking to HT, exporter Anil Mehra said, “We have got inputs that the heavy rains in Sindh area has destroyed vegetables crop in Pakistan. And now the demand of Indian vegetables especially tomatoes has gone high. About 60-70 trucks carrying tomatoes are being sent to Pakistan.”
Om Parkash, another exports said that Attari was not seeing much movement ten days back. But in the past few days, a lot of movement is seen. Apart from tomatoes, few other green vegetables have also been sent, he added.

{{/usCountry}}Confirming the recent jump in export, a customs official at the border said although heavy number of trucks carrying tomatoes were crossing over to Pakistan. But was the rain a reason to this demand or not, can not be confirmed.
Notably, both the nations exchange green vegetables. Pakistan had helped India for few days when India faced onion crisis. Last year, India has sent green chillies, garlic and other vegetables.
